These are caricatures from the sketchbook "Deadly Are The Naked" by the amazing JIM SMITH. For those who aren't familiar with Jims work, he is one of the most amazing draftsman working in animation today and probably of all time. He's one of the only people I know who can make a drawing so solid it makes you feel like you can reach into the paper and grab hold of it. On top of Jims amazing drawing ability he's a hell of a guitarist and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Jim gave me my first paid animation job, cleaning up his storyboard drawings, a position for which I was highly underqualified but was paid for none the less. If you're interested in seeing more of Jims work you can visit his website at (also in the links section) I also highly recommend purchasing his sketchbooks "Lonely Are The Naked" and his latest "Deadly Are The Naked" go to his site for more info.

I was going to purchase Lonely Are the Naked sketchbook from StuartNg, but you suggest both.

I went to Jim's site, a little hard to navigate. Looks like it might be cheaper to buy from Jim himself.

Thanks! These are some nice images.

Jim Smith is also the man who brought to life such joyful stories as the "Space Madness" episode of Ren and Stimpy.

A super talent indeed!

Cool post Fred! It must have been the most frustrating and inspiring situation ever to be his assistant. Jim's new sketchbook was made available through Diamond so if you have a good local comic shop you might be able to get it from them too. I ordered a few for my store.

Does anyone know what the status of Chestacles is? I know they produced some footage for it but now it looks like Jim is going to make it a comic project. I need my fix damn it!

Hi blogger:)

I adore this site... My favourite posts are copied and saved in a text file...
I might use them later on to create a similar project on my site... Obviously I will not use the same words, no worry about that...
